Review of Indigenous (2014) by Lionel L — 31 Jul 2016
Yeah the plot is dumb.
"Hey people have disappeared and we are forbidden to go there... let's go there"!
And the protagonists keep making insanely stupid decisions. After one of their friend is gone they wonder if they should go back to their car and the city. But instead they decide to find somewhere in the jungle where they have network and can make calls. Later on one of them will try to rescue one of his friends in the monster's cave but is obviously too afraid to help and thus would only be bait...
So why 5 stars in spite of all these obvious plot nonsense? Like my teacher used to say, we don't expect cows to be intelligent, we expect them to be tasty.
Same thing with horror movies. We don't watch horror movies to open up our minds and try to get culture, there are other movies/documentaries for that.
We want an horror movie to give us adrenaline, to make in hard to look at the screen, to make us feel we're being courageous, to make our hearts beat so hard in our chests that we can hear them.
And in that sense, the movie is a huge success.
And those who say it's a copy of the descent... get a pair of eyes, the descent in underground, this is above ground it's not the same at all.
Well, worked really good for me.
If you want to be scared play this!
