Review of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) by Tristan M — 24 Apr 2015
Second film in the classic Indiana Jones series, and not my favourite. Better than Temple of the Crystal Skull, but compared to the two others it doesn't stand up. I think it's the bad guys and overall story over anything else, but it's still pretty good.
Has a good classic beginning, the at chase is cool, but then jumping out of a plane in a rubber boat and sliding down a mountain into a river took it to far to the dumb side. After that when they reach the temple things slow down for a while, before some secret chambers are discovered and explored.
Again there is traps set up hundreds of years ago that are way ahead of their time, but not as many as the first film. Acting and script are good, and discovering that the actor who plays Glen in the Walking Dead plays Short Round in this film is a bonus.
Of course the artifacts that Jones is looking for will have some sort of weird power (which never goes good with me) but this time it is less over the top and doesn't kill everyone at the end. The action is good, the rail car chase is awesome, and for it's time the scene were the bad guy leader takes out a guys beating heart before sending him into a pit a lava while is heart which is still in the leaders hand burns, is really well done and cool, and scary also at the age that I first watched this film at.
The ending is by far the highlight, the famous bridge last stand. It's another classic moment that had a big influence on my childhood play, but the CGI doesn't stab up to well today for some moments.
Overall great movie, not the best and not the worst, but has some great moments that stand the test of time and have grown to be cinema legend.
