Review of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) by Nate P — 06 Dec 2012
It's no Raiders, but Temple of Doom still manages to satisfy. There is a big shift in focus from the original, especially in the territory of spectacles. There are plenty of gross-out gags and dark rituals that seem almost out of place in an Indiana Jones movie.
If you walked out of the first movie feeling like you were covered in sand, wine, and gold, this movie would likely leave you covered in bugs, blood, and monkey brains. Still, the sense of adventure is ever-present, the characters (if you can get past Willie) are enjoyable and fitting, and the story is memorable.
Again, it is not quite Raiders of the Lost Ark, but it's still a worthy addition to the series.
