Review of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) by J K — 25 Jan 2014

It's amazing how much hype can come from 19 years between two movies. After raiding lost arks, conquering temples of doom, and partaking in a last crusade, we find our protaganist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) seeking the kingdom of the crystal skull. Going from Eurasia to South America was a nice change for the series. Indy is joined by Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) and greaser Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeauf) in an all new adventure. The dynamics of the characters and other members proves interesting. The plot seems questionable, but it actually plays out in a pretty interesting manner. John Williams provides a great score, but nothing too original. There's some new stuff, but it doesn't do what the "Raiders March" did in the 1980s. The dialogue can feel like rehashing of what happened in the first three films, but to someone relatively new (This movie enticed me to see the first three in the month or two before it came out) it feels like a continuation of the series. There's some expansion, but if you're in your 40s and wanted what you got in the 80s, think again. The CGI level is way too high in this movie! Try toning it down a bit. It satisfies younger and newer fans, but not older fans (Unless this is what they wanted all along). Mayby under Disney, we'll get a better one. Is JJ Abrams available after Star Wars Episode VII? Still a good movie, don't get me wrong, I like it, just don't love it.
