Review of Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) by Brandon L — 21 Oct 2016
The new Independence Day movie was indeed a movie. Of that we can be sure. There were actors, lines, things blowing up, CG graphics, so it was certainly a movie.
Sadly, its big budget and all those parts didn't come together to form MUCH of a movie. While there was plenty going on, nothing seemed to happen...or matter. Probably because there was a cast of about 30 characters all vying for screen time so that no one had a story and what little story there was got rushed in favor of more explosions.
The film squeezes in plenty of bravado, some of the old characters, lines, and indeed plot points, so it was able to check all the boxes for a long-delayed sequel.
Bottom line: meh. If you want to see aliens and science fiction based human tech in an alternate present day blow each other up, you'll certainly see it here. If that (and that alone) is enough to entertain you, you'll have a great time.
