Review of Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) by Najd G — 02 Jan 2018
The charm of the original was that it was about a group of ordinary people put into an extraordinary situation - the audience got to ask themselves, "what would I do here?" In 1996, we experienced and learned about the alien invasion as the characters did. But in 2016, the characters are much more knowledgeable than us, and most of the story takes place in space and almost none of it on Average Joe's American soil. It's an alternate 2016 that is much more futuristic than anything I can relate to.
That, and the script is just bad. Really, really banally bad. I'm just glad Captain Steven Hiller isn't alive to see this.
