Review of Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) by Facebook U — 10 Jan 2018
"Poorly written" would be giving far too much credit to this heaping pile of trash.
The cringeworthy dialogue, dripping with naiveté, is delivered by actors that haven't been in front of a camera since the original film 20 yrs ago.
Unfortunately, the abysmal cast fails to distract from another gaping flaw of the film, the overtly lazy special effects: during many of the scenes, I felt as if I could reach out and touch the green-screened walls around the actors.
Of course, the proverbial cherry on top is the blatant pandering to the Chinese market through conspicuous product placements and completely superfluous Chinese characters with excessive screen time and next to zero dialogue.
A true disappointment and an insult to the original, avoid this like the alien menace that it is.
