Review of Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) by Joel C — 04 Apr 2017
Watching Independence Day for the first time at the cinema back in 1996 I was blown away, it was entertaining, exciting and looked spectacular. It hasn't aged well but I was still looking forward to the sequel.
I thought it was a good call having almost an alternate reality awaiting the aliens return as we find humanity has adapted the alien technology salvaged from the first movie to create our own high tech weapons and space craft.
However, that's where the praise ends. Will Smith dodged a bullet by skipping out on this one, the story is dull, the script is bad and the acting is naff :o( . Will Smith's charisma carried the first movie and he played off Jeff Goldblum's quirky personality perfectly.
Although Jeff is back and he is still playing Jeff Goldblum which provides some amusement, it's not enough. The ending suggests moving the fight off world for the next movie, if so I think I'll pass.
