Review of Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) by Mike D — 14 Aug 2016
Independence Day: Resurgence was a movie I had waited to see for such a long time. Let me being by saving I was a MASSIVE fan of the original film. It wasn't the best, but it completely worked as a disaster/action movie.
This sequel was a massive flop in my opinion. For one, the box office was kind of a disaster itself.
Now, onto the film. The film is generally boring, with action scenes that make no sense whatsoever, and you wonder "what is even happening?" Some random love stories between characters that have no depth at all. I mean, seriously, look at the original, we all loved Will Smith, Bill Pullman, but this film literally makes Bill Pullman's character into a depressed and crazed old man.
The film is also very rushed, and you quickly lose track of what is happening...from the beginning. Apparently London is destroyed? Uhh...why was The Burj Khalifa being dropped on London? Umm...why are we even over London? Oh, for the dramatic effect of a character's mother living there. We never hear about this mother character for the rest of the film.
I will say the effects are good, but that doesn't save Independence Day: Resurgence from just being a generally boring and unpleasant movie. At least 2012 was a bit entertaining.
