Review of Independence Day (1996) by Sam C — 29 Jun 2013
If I had to pick one word to describe Independence Day that word would be awesome. Independence Day is an awesome 90s summer blockbuster that is pure popcorn fun. Is this movie really cheesy and goofy at times? Well yeah, but that adds to the awesomeness.
Ok I think it's about time I stopped using the word awesome because I've said it a lot already. Let me talk a little more in depth about Independence Day starting with the writing. Independence Day's script is far from great but it works very well for 90s summer blockbuster.
The story takes you on a fun ride, the one-liners are great, and the characters are all really cool. The one thing this script could have used was more character depth, all the characters are really cool but you barley know anything about them.
Still, the film's script is very good for 90s summer blockbuster. Roland Emmerich does a great job at directing this film, he is great when it comes directing big action movies like this one. The special effects in this movie are dated but for it's time they were very good.
All the action sequences and destruction of cities looked good with the special effects and were very entertaining. Every actor in this movie gives good performance and does a great job at portraying their character.
Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, and Randy Quaid are all awesome in this movie and the supporting cast is great as well. In the end Independence Day is just an awesome movie that takes you on a fun ride and is definitely worth checking out!
