Review of Incredibles 2 (2018) by Justin B — 18 Jun 2018
Just an incredible sequel. (I'm sure I'm the first to make that joke!).
While not perfect, this sequel was well worth the 14 year wait and makes me long for more adventures in super and civilian life with the Parrs! It was interesting watching this film after rewatching the first one the night prior because you see the amazing juxtaposition in the quality of the filmmaking (though it is still top notch in the first film!).
The plot might not be ground breaking and was easy to see coming, but the real joy that comes from watching these movies is seeing how the world grows as not so much a parody but an homage to classic superhero tropes as well as family life.
(Slight spoiler).
If I had any issue with the film it would be that despite taking place almost immediately after the first film the characters felt like they didn't retain their growth, particularly Bob who grew the most over the course of the first outing. Bob was rather callous and self centered for much of the film, something he seemed to overcome after seemingly losing his family on the island.
But that minor complaint is nothing to worry about because the film is just one of Pixar's most solid offerings!
