Review of In Time (2011) by Field M — 28 Jan 2013
An interesting and buoyant premise that, unfortunately, delivers more than any other aspect of them film, In Time is a story of economy where living on the bread line is literally life or death. A fantastic metaphor to the capitalist margins of our own Western world, In Time nods towards Marx as much as it indulges its Bonnie & Clyde-esque heroes. A fantastic feast for the brain, that is mostly let down by its hesitancy and lack of direction. Moments where you want the film to be brave it steps back, and the convoluted plot is as intriguing as it is confusing. Leaving the viewer sure they watched something fantastic, but not entirely there. Timberlake and Seyfried were surprising turn outs for me, offering chemistry and depth. The most reliable part of the film was their interactions.
Over all, In Time is a decent action film that's enjoyable on a mindless level. Its drawbacks are that it could have been so much more.
