Review of In Time (2011) by Güne? T — 03 Aug 2013
While it's disappointing when a big concept movie struggles to remain a level above mediocrity, this movie is being treated harsher by critics than it deserves. Probably, the movie loses most people who might have otherwise stood by it, when it comes down on the side of nihilism and anarchy.
You don't really have to create a metaphor this big, built on such an intriguing premise to present a conclusion that the only way to fight the power is to wreck it. If you want to spread that message, you can have a lot more fun than this movie does, and if you come on with this kind of premise, you hope for a deeper message.
Still, this is a high production quality, entertaining use of two hours. Just because it could have been better doesn't make it bad. Pop the popcorn, pop in the movie, and don't make the perfect the enemy of the good.
You'll enjoy yourself.
