Review of In the Valley of Elah (2007) by Werewolf K — 05 Jan 2010
What a saddening, depressing thing to happen when you lose yet another son to the Army only to discover, after his death, that he wasn't the son you thought he was. Stand out performances by Charlize Theron and Tommy Lee Jones give the film two more pieces that, along with the other outstanding work, create a whole that's greater still than the sum of its parts.
Don't think this film is going to make you feel good because it's not. But it does put a very human face on the plight of veterans returning from our twin wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, returning scarred for life to places that seem even more alien to them than the war zones did in the beginning.
Five stars seems too few to give this film.
