Review of In the Tall Grass (2019) by Kyoshiloneheart — 03 Nov 2019
This movie had a lot of potential, that much is obvious. Tall grass that sorta "lives" and traps people, how could that go wrong? If you really want to find out, watch this movie. The early setup is the best part of the film.
It is eerie, mysterious and makes you think it is gonna go somewhere. It does indeed go somewhere, but nowhere good. The core of the movie quickly becomes insanely convoluted, introducing an idea that simply does not work and above all else, isn't scary at all.
It tries so hard to be this mysterious thriller with how the grass works, but it actually ends up coming across as silly. Then it goes into total silly mode mode (while still thinking it is scary) when it introduces the main antagonist besides the grass itself.
The grass doesn't actually do a whole lot, but the other enemy it puts into the mix does, but it is so goofy and run of hte mill that it doesn't scare or even unease in the slightest. Also, this pissed me off and still does: There is a scene later in the film that involves a character eating something (one the moments where the movie thinks it is edgy) and the chewing and eating sounds at this part are SO F**KING ANNOYING AND WILL PISS YOU OFF.
It has angered me long after the credits have rolled because they are just that bad. Whoever involved in this film thought that was a good idea is a moron. So yeah. This movie isn't good sadly. It lures you in with a great idea and then smacks you in the face with pretentious garbage that isn't the slightest bit scary.
