So, this is one of those situations where the movie is better than the book (actually, novella) - and, obviously Stephen King books/novellas are usually at least good if not great.
The movie adds several new plot items that bring more interesting and thoughtful issues to the movie making it more compelling for viewers who like a little thinking involved with the watching.
