Review of In the Realm of the Senses (1976) by Dave A — 08 Jul 2008
Beautifully filmed arty erotic tale of sexual obsession from Nagisa Oshima. Though criticized for using unstimulated sex scenes and having morbid, death obsessed themes to draw attention to the film, these criticisms are childish.
It's a well constructed, intelligent film, and I agree entirely with Paul Marah that it shows up Last Tango in Paris for the cheap, soulless piece of work that it was.
