Review of In the Loop (2009) by Dan L — 10 Jun 2012
Funny, funny, lemon funny; that's In The Loop, thanks to acidic writing that is not just lemon but vinegar and raw onion. The dialogue is quickfire and often hilarious. For those new to this crude humour, with its irreverant naked look at politics, it may come as a shock. Some of the best lines have already been used in the original half-hour BBC series, The Thick Of It, which spawned this feature film:'You're nothing. You are the guy that gave the world AIDS. You still have monkey pubic hair on your genitals,' etc; but the writers still give it a good shot, unearthing gem after gem in their quest for biting wit.
Peter Capaldi is magnificent as the scheming Labour Party organiser presiding over the pandemonium that is politics. It's fast, it's shocking, it's possibly so near the truth that it could just be frightening.
