Review of In the Loop (2009) by Daniel O — 03 Jul 2013
I found it to be a fantastic political farce. We hold politicians, elected officials and high ranking military officers on this pedestal as if they are not human. In this movie they essentially break down this image.
They swear, they make stupid decisions and they mess up their relationships, and it is done with comic perfection. It is wonderfully written and performed by all the actors involved. My only issue is with the way they choose to film it.
They did it mockumentary style, a la The Office, and while it may have worked for something 30-45 minutes it just felt a little drawn out at almost 2 hours. Especially because it obviously was not a mockumentary just a mocking of politics.
I think if they had shot it a little more traditionally I would have enjoyed it even that much more.
