Review of In the Loop (2009) by Jesse C — 11 Apr 2010
In all honesty, as riotously funny as it is, this does confirm that the format is more appropriate for a half hour sitcom. Fans of the series will find the idea of using the regular cast in different roles, except Capaldi who plays his character from The Thick Of It, as one of the main roles, a bit mystifying.
Couldn't they find a way of working in all the regualr characters? And if not, why not try a new cast? Chris Addison particularly plays a new character, that's THE SAME as his tv incarnation. I'm not suggesting it makes it hard to follow, it just leaves you spending more time that neccessary wondering why?? Also, it does drag some compared to the short snappy thirty minute show.
Still, when all's said and done, everything that makes the show great remains intact, and it still demonstrates more brain and more bite than whatever constitutes its competition.
