Review of In the Loop (2009) by Jamie W — 05 Aug 2010
A quick-stepping, rapid-fire political comedy in the vein of Yes Minister. Various factions in the US and UK quibble over the opportunity of going to war, and our dislikeable protagonists become more and more desperate as the prospect materializes as a reality.
The cast tends towards character duplication, the footage towards shaky-cam, and the plot towards mismatched power struggles. The dirty-mouthed comedy is overshadowed by a darker shroud of the powerful gears of politics that slowly crush our doomed protagonists.
Entertaining, insightful and clever, In The Loop still manages to lack a certain style that makes it more than just amusing.
