Review of In the Line of Fire (1993) by Josh C — 13 Jan 2010
I can't believe I hadn't seen this movie until a couple of days ago. I always knew about In The Line of Fire starring Clint Eastwood, John Malchovich, and Rene Russo. I've always been a fan of Wolfgang Petersen's films.
I like to watch movie trailers from films I have already seen before. I was watching the trailer for Air Force One starring Harrisosn Ford, which is one of my favorite movies, which was directed by Petersen.
In the trailer it said "from the director of in the line of fire", and I thought, hmmm, I havn't seen that movie before but I heard of it. Yeah, Clint Eastwood, it should be good. And I was totally right.
I watched the film right after, and it was everything that I expected it to be. A great action/suspense flick with three top notch actors performing together for a brilliantly executed thriller. It's very rare that you get to see movies that portray the role of secret service agents.
It's really fun to see actually what is going on in there lives and what they are thinking. And of course this film takes Eastwood as a run down Agent who failed to protect Kennedy when he was assasinated.
He gets a call from Malchovich explaining that he wants to assasinate the president. The rest of the film is a mind game from there. Malchovich always has that dark/calm/mysterious tone about him, which makes his acting so good.
Renne Russo does a great job portraying the go between, and Clint Eastwood as always is a complete badass. The way the film progresses on each character is very well executed, for example Eastwood becoming more angry and Malchovich becoming more sensitive every phone conversation with Eastwood.
There really wasn't anything wrong with the film. What I loved most about the film was that they didn't focus at all on the president's personality. He has one line in the film, and it's not even directed towards screen.
So I think the way they made it out to be as a Secret Service movie and nothing else was very well done. All in all, another great Eastwood film. Three great performances and a good movie by Wolfgang Peterson.
I recommend to any fan of the suspense genre. And as Eastwood said, "Well I'll be thinking about it, as I'm pissing all over your grave.".
