Review of In the Line of Fire (1993) by Anssi V — 10 Oct 2011
Nothing to write home about, really. Well, okay, the film isn't bad. But, the truth is that this film is enjoyable to watch only because it has Clint Eastwood in it. Frank Horrigan isn't one of his great roles, but he plays it well and with feeling.
True, the character is pretty much the same one that he has always played, with few minor changes, but it just works so damn well for him. Although, Horrigan's romance with a female agent at least two decades younger than him is a bit odd, to tell the truth.
It's like Eastwood wanted to prove that he still has it, even though it makes no sense in the actual film. The story would have worked so much better if he had only outrageously flirted with her, instead of actually starting a romance with her.
But yeah, the story itself is a bit bland, as are the rest of the characters. Nothing in this film is actually bad or stupid, but nothing in it is that great either. An average film. Though it has Eastwood in it, so it was worth watching.
