The very first Miami-Vice style odd-couple of cops, a great movie! This compelling crime story delves not only into run of the mill subjects of murder, and racism, but also the social tension that incubated in the hearts and minds of both blacks and whites during this time in history.
Rod Steiger and Sidney Poitier are absolutely fantastic as the town's tough as nails and none too racist police cheif, and the black Philidelphian Homocide expert who gets coincidentally stuck on the case.
The tension of this movie is so apparent and the story and screenplay so great that this film is a rightful classic in the genres of social drama and crime. "They call me Mister Tibbs": quite possibly the best delivered line in cinema.
