Review of In the Electric Mist (2009) by Dan Y — 20 Mar 2009
This movie contains some beautiful images of both the colloquial and the natural, the old and the new Louisiana. From image to text, this film is philosophical without being pedantic and definitely not boring if you love old Southern sentimentality drawn with raw edges and hints of the supernatural.
History and culture buffs might appreciate the subtexts carried by the smaller parts and props. This movie makes me grateful to have such things on record--things like the way a person might move through the bayous and even navigate intrusive modernity as potentially deadly and magically complex as the thickets and swamps of Louisiana itself.
It's a gem.
