Review of In the Electric Mist (2009) by Tom B — 20 Apr 2011
A film as much about truth and dignity as the fallen angel detective who stumbles through this winding tale of corruption and loss in the south. This is a lovely film, fully in the Chandler mode. For those who love cinema and the noir-detective tradition this might be a keeper.
It is for me. Splendid performances, the film's main shortcoming is too much association with Herzog's Bad Lieutenant and even The Deprated, notably Goodma's baddie echoing Nicholson's.
Similarities notwithstanding, this one has a soul all it's own, imparted by the players and the pacing, and the gorgeous setting, each scene rich in flavor, it's a full course meal filled with great writing and a somber mood of reflection, fitting considering the many layers of the past unfolding around the main events of the narrative.
A real gem for those who love an ambling walk through the mists of detective fiction.
