Review of In the Electric Mist (2009) by Ben F — 22 Mar 2010
I'm one of those guys who thinks that most of the performances that Tommy Lee Jones gives are awesome. I really don't think he has to do much. The same thing goes for "In The Electric Mist" The film did a good job of keeping me entertained, and that's all that mattered.
Basically Jones is playing the detective and he's investigating. John Goodman is the pimp or whatever, and Peter Sarsgaard is the celebrity. The plot is pretty predictable, but it has some interesting twists which keep it fresh, and that's why the premise for this film pulled off.
What I really liked about this movie was the good execution. I thought that the tension that this film had in it's core got more and more powerful as the movie went on. Jones does a good job, and while Goodman wasn't anything special, he still did what he was supposed to do, and sure enough, he pulled it off. There are a couple of other actors who completely suprised me when I saw them, like Ned Beatty who is only in the film for a couple of minutes. He was alright. Sarsgaard was kind of ridiculous, and when he was supposed to be high or drunk I really didn't believe it, but his performance wasn't THAT bad.
One really good thing about this movie is it's soundtrack. The music in this film is completely original and a lot of fun to listen to. The closing track in the credits is really a song to remember, so I was really happy about that.
"In The Electric Mist" doesn't need a big review to explain it. The plot is pretty simple, as well as it's execution. It didn't try to do anything over the top, and it did a good job at keeping me entertained. A good movie.
