Review of In the Cut (2003) by Vern B — 27 Jul 2008
Campion aggressively re-articulates Meg Ryan's sexuality. She does the same for a lovely, discombobulated Jennifer Jason Leigh and a mustachioed, smitten Mark Ruffalo. It's more an exploration of gender roles in [hetero]sexuality than a crime thriller.
The set design is well-observed, bona fide New York. The photography is beautifully stylized (suffused in browns, reds and yellows), if occasionally overdone.
