Review of In the Cut (2003) by Adam G — 26 Feb 2004
[color=white]Hey, I'm Matt. I guess I'll just review movies here that I've seen recently and stuff. Imagine the fun!
IN THE CUT.
This movie was not that great in my opinion. It was a sexual thriller, but not sexual enough to be called "sexual" and not thrilling enough to be called a "thriller." Jane Campion tries to inject her art-style into it, which only succeeds in irritating the viewer with its blurry focusing.
Meg Ryan's character falls for a cop (Mark Ruffalo) who is so completely outside what a woman of her type would go for (not to mention he's got a traditional cop moustache. What's up with that? Who thinks that's attractive?) But he's sleazy, so why does she like him? Who knows? And danger is just around the corner with him, yet she continues to stick around. There are subplots that are pointless, and the ending kinda comes out of left field. But by that time, I was so sick of watching the movie I didn't care. But I wouldn't have cared anyway. It was one of those movies I had to force myself to keep watching, and who needs that? No one, that's who.
Verdict: Boooooring. Even the director's cut is nothing special. I was hoping they'd rocket up the sex and violence, but I was only left wanting more. More! More!
