Review of In the Company of Men (1995) by Derek B — 29 Mar 2009
Anyone who views this film as a comedy should seek professional help. It's about as funny (and comfortable) as root canal work. It is unflinching in its portrayal of male rivalry and misogyny so what, pray tell, is there to laugh at? The tasteless jokes about deaf people?
Despite some razor-sharp characterisation and strong performances from the leads, this film is hampered by static, stagey direction and a plot that moves as if it were on rails.
