Review of In the Bedroom (2001) by Stewart S — 23 Feb 2009
A masterpiece, so resonant with emotion and with perfectly measured direction by Todd Field who never lets it become tawdry or melodramatic. Sissy Spacek's is a devastating performance, full of restrained anger and pain; everything held behind those cool blue eyes until she finally breaks.
Tom Wilkinson's withheld grief is incredibly affecting. It subtly gets inside you, the whole film pervaded with a haunting reality, and a surprising sting in the end.
