Review of In Search of a Midnight Kiss (2007) by William B — 18 Dec 2008
A modern indie-take on a story of ephemeral love that starts off awkwardly (but charming nonetheless) and ends up being something simply wonderful because of the chemistry between the leads. Individual events might not amount to much (even less so than the Before Sunrise/Sunset) especially since, after all, it takes place in LA, but the romance has a genuine vibe lacking in so many modern films. There are several flawed scenes, mostly those trying to flesh out the side characters, but otherwise, the film works great on a few levels.
On a side note, I think romance works a lot better on traditional film stock compared to HD, especially considering some of the film's more outrageous moments. (actually, I think everything looks better that way).
