Review of In Bruges (2008) by Matt M — 13 Apr 2013
Two Irish hitmen are ordered to hideout in Bruges, Belgium after a bungled shootout. Soon enough, they realise that their stay in Bruges involves more than sightseeing. McDonagh's feature debut is very impressive, taking a simple story and turning it into something special with a smart screenplay, fast paced dialogue with memorable one liners, a good dose of stylised violence, and strange support elements from dwarfs, to prostitutes passing through inanimate objects and touchingly dramatic moments coming from the conflicted main characters.
