Review of In Bruges (2008) by Callum S — 27 May 2013
Extremely well written, being dark, touching and poetic in it's story and themes. Filled with offensive but absolutely hilarious scenes right after each other and features incredible performances by Colin Farrel, giving his best performance as Ray, a loose, regretting hit man with Ken (brendan gleeson) who always gives an amazing performance and Ralph Fiennes, in a darkly hilarious villain role.
The first hour is hilarious, emotional, offensive but honest and the last act is always hilarious, haunting, poetic and disturbing but still rings true. More people really need to see this one, it's a gem and one of the smartest comedies I've ever seen, up there with Fargo (and anything the Coens have done).
A memorable, underrated gem.
