Review of In Bruges (2008) by Davis M — 08 Jan 2014
In his follow up to the brilliant short film, Six Shooter, Martin Mcdonagh delivers a fresh and satisfying black comedy that leads to a fulfilling ending that shouldn't catch you off guard, but somehow does.
In Bruges peppers in a little bit of everything; comedy, action, romance, surrealism, drama which was pulled off fairly well. It seemed as though the romance subplot was somewhat rushed. Farrell plays a charismatic assassin, which on the surface seems nothing out of the ordinary, but he retains enough self awareness and wit to poke fun at the secret gunman trope.
Four stars for midget jokes, hookers, drugs, guns, anti American rhetoric, necessary violence, and a dead little boy as a plot device.
