Review of In Bruges (2008) by Eric B — 06 Feb 2014
A brilliant tour de force (yet with a force that radiates a demanding equelibrium of energy while being utterly disturbed and grim in the center), a night apocalyptic film with lots of references to the last judgement and I reckon this one took more than one hint from the Coen brothers' style of filmmaking - as in masquerading a profound discussion on the nature of guilt and humanity within the individual as a quirky, sometimes funny, beautiful and always entertaining film. Is it a thriller, is it a comedy ? Who knows, I reckon it resembles life and therefore cannot be squeezed into a specific kind of genre or cinema. The acting is brilliant on all parts (apart from Poesy who is mere eyecandy, damn you Hollywood and how you treat female characters) but Farrell, Gleeson (Laurel & Hardy anyone) and Fiennes deliver on all fronts.
A gorgeous and deep film experience !
