Review of In Bruges (2008) by Alejandro R — 07 Dec 2014
Great crime drama about loyalty and even honor among criminals. Fiennes' character is the head criminal who despite his illegal activities still lives by a code and in the end must deal with the consequences according to that code so that honor is served. The other characters portrayed by Farrell and Gleeson in their own way are deeply affected by Fiennes' attachment to his code. Farrell and Gleeson are great together. Fiennes comes in at just the right time to deliver his potency. Farrell was very believable in this role, unlike other roles like Alexander.
Was really worth watching with some decent doses of comedic relief here and there. The contrast of sensibilities with the Belgian city of Bruges helped to add fuel to the fire in the battle between these characters and what they were willing to fight for. The city created a sense of peace, beauty and fantasy for some, while the city's stillness drove one of them nuts.
