Review of In & Out (1997) by Maria M — 23 Nov 2010
In & Out is fun in a lighthearted way. Even if it is basically a sitcom extended to 90 minutes, the likable cast doesn't make it seem overlong. The real problem with the film is that it doesn't convince us that Kline's Howard Brackett is gay.
I mean, dancing to disco makes you gay? Practicing abstinence before marriage means you're queer? Being well dressed means you're attracted to other men? Give me a fucking break. I enjoyed the performances and silly first half, but either this ending needed to be re-written or the entire script needed strengthening.
