Review of In a World... (2013) by Donovan M — 22 Aug 2013
( My grade A- ) In a world where so much commercial garbage is thrust upon us at the multiplex, it's pretty sweet that we can still occasionally get a film like, "In A World..." Such a creative and funny first effort from the wonderful Lake Bell.
"In a world" is of course a phrase made famous by moview preview voiceover legend Don LaFontaine. This movie takes us inside that world and the competitive nature of movie pitchmen and who will be the new king or perhaps queen, now that "The Don" is gone, of the voiceover business.
Despite the father/daughter rivalry at the center here, the movie stays light & fun with lots of subplots with the supporting players. It's an all star team from other comedies icluding stand-ups Demetri Martin & Tig Notaro as well as some surprise appearances.
At the heart it's cleverly a movie about finding your own voice especially for young girls. No more "sexy baby" talk ladies!
