Review of In a Better World (2010) by Dickie L — 02 Apr 2011
Susanne Biers' impressive canon of Danish language films continues with In A Better World, another intense drama littered with moral dilemmas and tough choices for its troubles characters. The.
Issue of bullying, portrayed on many levels, dominates the film, and it makes for uncomfortable, stomach churning drama. Those familiar with Biers' films will recongnise the verite, hand held camera style, the extreme close ups and the naturalistic performances. The film also echoes her previous After The Wedding by bookending the Danish-set story with scenes featuring children in third world locations. This doesn't quite reach the heights of that particular film, but its still powerful and thought provoking stuff.
