Review of In a Better World (2010) by Jared E — 05 Apr 2011
Winning the Best Foreign Language Film from both Golden Globe and Oscar should already guarantee the quality of the film, but I will add that Hævnen is the best film I have seen so far in 2011 (not taking Kurosawa's films into account).
In Hævnen, the characters are faced with various situations which lead them to choices of revenge and forgiveness. The story goes on with everyday conflicts that are tied together wisely - many credits to the writer and Susanne Bier, the director. The extent of morality has been tested, and the film shows us the possible outcomes of the decisions.
The entire casts deserve a praise for their acting. The young boys who play the roles of Christian and Elias have delivered particularly striking performance here, and I expect to see them in more films. ^^.
P.S. This film also reminded me of a verse in the bible; 'If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.' ^^.
