Review of In a Better World (2010) by Jean-Philippe B — 07 Apr 2011
It's a very moving human drama, perhaps ambitiously human, but every emotion is so true, thanks to the director's avoidance of self-indulgence in anything histrionic. The violence and revenge may be just means for audience's experiencing all sentiments of these true characters, Anton's moral value, Christian's behavious because of his loss of his beloved mother.
The film is undolded in a very natural way indeed, perhaps the ending is too good to be expected (or unexpected), and this, the flattening, may be a problem one mya find of the film. The main actors and actreesses all worth mentioning for their superb performance, but the child who plays Christian, handsome, acting surprisingly well, natural and mature, is a real find.
