Review of In a Better World (2010) by Mike V — 15 Apr 2011
I expected this to be a hard movie to watch, and there were some difficult scenes, but in some ways I found it to be actually more hopeful than I expected. Some critics didn't like the juxtaposition of the scenes from Africa and the scenes in Denmark, but I saw that as a way of expressing the human universality of the temptation for revenge, as well as showing that under the right circumstances even those who philosophically reject vengeful actions may have to confront an impulse to act contrary to their values.
This is a poignant drama that tackles a serious subject. I found the story interesting from start to finish and I would recommend this film.
