Review of In a Better World (2010) by Lori B — 08 Sep 2011
I'm not sure I would as giddy about "In a Better World" if I hadn't seen a terrible Indy called "Mad World," also about bullying, a couple of days earlier. But in comparison to the childish, one dimensional film with low production value, the Oscar-winning Susanne Bier effort seems like one of the best movies ever made. It certainly is a grown up, complex look at the role of the bully in the world. It also happens to be perfectly shot and excellently acted.
I find it interesting that I disagree with Ebert about this particular movie when I usually agree with him. I'll be interested to see if I still feel as much affection for the film in a month or after I've seen the rest of the nominees for Best Foreign Language film.
