Review of Immortal Beloved (1994) by Leilani O — 09 Jun 2007
First of all, I'm a huge Beethoven fan. This movie was spectacular. Gary Oldman's performance was brilliant as the intense and tormented Beethoven. This movie left me very emotional. The visual imagery combined with Beethoven's music was just heart-wrenching.
More specifically, when Beethoven's deafness becomes more evident in the scene where he lowers his head to the piano to hear his playing of Moonlight Sonata. Another such touching and unforgettable moment in the film was the background of Ode to Joy with the scene at the end where the young Beethoven runs away from his abusive father and lies on his back in the lake watching the millions of stars above him.
In my opinion, this movie is a masterpiece.
