Review of Immortal (2004) by Vickie L — 06 Jul 2010
Again, this movie proves that no comic book artists should direct a movie, they simply do not understand time or plot, and their plastic approach never works on the screen.
Just as Dave McKean's MirrorMask, or Frank Miller's Spirit, this movie is plagued with a bad script, an even worst interpretation of it.
Comic books and films are two very different mediums...
Also the 3d is so bad most of the time it seems like you're watching a video game. There are even VGs better than that... The 3d modelling and photography is not that bad. Sometimes epic, sometimes really poor, but the BIG problem is animation. Characters look move as if they were made of plastic by a 3d student...
The script is a mish mash of two comic books, and I really wonder what made the producing team think they needed to do that. Obviously it doesn't work. The story of the first comic book should be plenty enough for even a 2 hour movie...
This movie was a big disappointment as I'm a huge fan of the original french comic book. Not only because it was so badly produced, but because they changed too much from the original work. both in terms of visuals and story.
I wonder if someone will ever produce a good film version of this amazing comic book just like they did with Watchmen. It could be awesome.
