Review of Imitation of Life (1959) by Eric E — 16 Sep 2007
If you've never seen a Sirk film, this is where you should start. Over the top dramatic, but very thoughtful and hard hitting on issues of race and class. Also, like all of Sirk's film, gorgeously filmed in saturated color from start to finish.
A GEM of a performance by Mahalia Jackson at the end just tops it all off. Superb.
