Review of Imitation of Life (1959) by Alison A — 21 Oct 2010
Sirk does the tablecloth trick on Eisenhower's America, and it wows & flays & suffocates & shames. Women dominate the film's universe & their righteous & overflowing humanity force the viewer to reassess the film's title as perhaps a provocation to their own view of the status quo.
This is beyond soap, here the opera needs water cannons.
