Review of Imitation of Life (1934) by Jeff B — 01 Jun 2007
Not really sure what to think of this one. The acting was good I guess, but there were still some pretty obvious "racist" moments in the film, or rather, the movie is very dated. I'm guessing it probably had an impact 75 years ago, but it just doesn't have the same effect now.
And some of the scenes with the daughter and the mother's fiance are kind of laughable. Maybe I'm just being too picky. Ovearll it's a good movie, it's just a bit long, or maybe it shouldn't have focused so much on Jessie.
