Review of Imitation of Life (1934) by Nandi C — 04 Apr 2012
The "original" movie based on the Fannie Hurst book that set it all off. In this version, Claudette Colbert is a woman selling appliances when she meets up with Louise Beavers who has a young child as she and a delicious tasting pancake recipe.
With that recipe, Colbert becomes rich, which would have made Beavers even more so, but she was just was content just being around Colbert. Her daughter, meanwhile is a tragic mulatto, and tries her darndest to be all she can be without her momma causing the ultimate sacrifice.
a bit different from the famous 1959 version; both can now be both on the same DVD.
